I retired after 38 years in law enforcement. I was a firearms instructor most of that time and was lead instructor at police academies for 16 years. I was active in PPC competition, earning a spot on the Michigan Governor’s Twenty for fifteen consecutive years, along with numerous other local, state and National awards.
With Rider’s-Range, I intend to share my thoughts and experience by providing education, information, testing and comparison of firearms and related equipment, along with safety and training information, though I may get sidetracked into other topics on occasion.
Although I have been teaching and training for many, many years, I have been learning even longer, starting with my training with the United States Navy SeaBees prior to deploying to Vietnam, and continuing to this day. shame
Thanks for an honest review. Im not a KImber fan boy but the stupid regurgitated nonsense about how bad Kimbers are is just unfair. They employee a lot of people and its irresponsible to trash a whole company to try to sound smart. My take after buying the KDS9c is this. Kimber makes more 1911s than most everyone. Ive met a few owners who had problems but after the kinks were worked out they had terrific pistols. Im into value with everything I own . Kimber is an enormous value for what you get. Especially if your the average gun guy. Please keep telling the stupid stories like the one about the instructor who told the students to bring a pistol to class and those with a Kimber bring 3 because they break so often....Ive read that literally 50 times.... that will continue to artificially keep the cost down untill I get all the other KImbers I want !! Thank you!1
Thanks for watching. I haven't heard the story about the instructor telling his students to bring three Kimbers, but it doesn't surprise me. I have yet to have a Kimber fail me, even after several thousand rounds of hard use.
确实不错,巴适!good😍
My EVO Rapter has been discontinued & Kimber refuses to supply parts...my 938 Sig is discontinued but parts will be available by Sig...I would never purchase anything Kimber when they leave customers unable to replace parts.
Anybody else having an issue where the safety will engage when firing? I've been told twice now that it is the way I'm holding the pistol, and that I need to "ride the safety with my thumb like a gas pedal", but this is unnatural for me. Love the pistol, but I really need to troubleshoot a solution for this safety problem. If I don't "ride the safety" it malfunctions every single shot.
I'd like to say that there is another option, but with any 1911/2011-style pistol - or any gun that has a manual safety and is carried in "condition one" - you do need to "ride the safety". You need to train, not until you get it right, but until you can't get it wrong, to thumb the safety off when coming up on target, riding the safety while shooting, and thumbing the safety back on when returning to the holster.
What is price and what is a good price
Occasionally I see pre-owned P-10S for under $300. New ones can be had for around $400. Anything over $450 (US Dollars) is a rip off.
Excellent review sir. Thank you.
Thank you for watching.
Love the regular Hellcat! You can get one with 2 15 and 2 13 and one 11 round magazine range bag and speed loader for less than 500$ Lot of firepower in a little package!
Thanks for watching and adding your thoughts.
If Kel-tec made a 9 shot P-25 pistol to complement thier .32 P-32 range they would have the best .25 ever made.
Ahh, but "The Best" .25acp pistol is still the first to officially have the brand name "The Best", though there may be some argument as to whether or not it really is the best. Thanks for watching.
Use only Wilson combat magazine's with the Tisas 1911's. And change the factory grips with natural wood grips add rubber bushings. I use blazer and pnc for target and Hornady for defense have no issues anymore.
Thanks for watching and adding your thoughts.
Holster?
Craft Holsters, Wright Leather Works and Galco Gun Leather all make holsters for the King Cobra. I'm sure there are other brands I haven't thought of. Thanks for watching.
It likes a 124 grain bullet. Fantastic piece of hardware.
Thanks for watching and adding your thoughts.

Love my g3c! Mine shoots good with everything 115 124 and 147! The 147 groups really tight. I have underwood 147 gr +p loaded with Nosler bullets in mine. I went to buy a S&W shield plus. Came home with the g3c instead.
Thank you for watching and adding your thoughts on the G3c.
@@RidersRange have you tested a hellcat?
Yes, I tested the Hellcat RDP a little more than three years ago. Search my channel for that review.
@@RidersRange I did just didn’t go back far enough. Thanks
Good information. Thanks for the video
Thank you for watching.
It just looks like red layout die on the trigger.
The red finish (anodizing?) is definitely wearing off.
Kimber is a great choice to carry. I have the ultra .45, 9 and 380. I have a variety of pistol firearms and my edc is the taurus GX4....my thought is....if I ever have to defend myself and actually fire my weapon and or disable someone, guess what ....your $900 weapon is gone, I had my SFA xds confiscated just for an altercation with a jug head and the law took my weapon. I almost didnt get it back....smh! Lot of paperwork and had get 3 signatures before released back to me 7 months later...if had been my GX4 or G2C, I wouldve just kissed that $300 bye..lesson learned
Bummer to have a gun confiscated and the hassle to get it back. Thanks for watching and adding the info.
Went to purchase this TWC9 this weekend after handling it realized that the safety was poorly fitted shame on Jacob Gray this should never happen on a $2500 weapon. Poor quality control.
The original TWC9 apparently wasn't designed by, or approved by, folks who shoot a lot. The safety on the one that I shot for this video was much improved over the first one I held. Thanks for watching.
Went to purchase this fire on this weekend as I was handling the gun, I realized that the safety was poorly fitted and loose on one side shame on them. Jacob Gray should never produce a firearm that’s $2500 with those flaws!
no selector s a deal breaker
Another excellent review Harley. Have you addressed the “terrible”trigger in the Girsan? Also what about inherent accuracy between the different pistols? Like out of a fixture or off sandbags? For that kind of money Id expect 1” at 25 yards. Out of that group if you could only have one which one would it be?
As always, thank you for watching. 1) I haven't taken the time to work on the Girsan trigger. I want to like that gun, but there are so many projects that keep me from spending time "gunsmithing" the Girsan. 2) I rarely shoot from bags or a rest, unless I have difficulty hitting my smaller plates at 50 yards. I'm guessing that the Wilson EDC X9, Kimber KDS9c and Dan Wesson DWX Compact are all capable of 1" at 25 yards - with the right ammo. 3) I really want to love the DWX Compact. However, after a friend shot it yesterday and found the front sight to again be "self-adjusting" after only two mags of 115gr ammo, I'm afraid I'm going to have to send it in for warranty work. In the mean time, the Kimber fits my hand better than the Wilson, but the Wilson just exudes quality - and oh, that trigger. Decisions, decisions.
My Ruger LCP2 disassembled itself upon shooting. Took my 10 minutes to find the smaller recoil spring in the grass. Don't trust this pistol now, so am pocket carrying my P365 in 9mm with its external manual safety on without a holster for less printing and an easier draw. And I can feel where the safety is through my pants. Thanks Sig for making this reliable, accurate, easily carriable pistol.
Comp
My sites where way off from factory on my full size DWX. Have same safty issue. Let us know when your extractor pin starts to move up and down. Did colt do The QC on this before they went out the door.
Fine review. Have you reviewed the CZ Shadow 2 Compact? Be nice to compare these two.
You mentioned that you found postols better than the edc x9. Would you share what they are?
"Better" is totally subjective. I have a few basic criteria for "better" for me (in order of importance to me): 1) Function/reliability with all ammo; 2) Trigger feel; 3) Accuracy out to 50 yards; 4) How it feels in my hand; 5) How well it conceals; 6) How well it's made, including finish. For me, the Wilson EDC X9 hits all the criteria except #4 - it just feels blocky in my hand compared to the KDS9c and DWX Compact. Both the Kimber KDS9c and the Dan Wesson DWX Compact feel better to me in my hand than the Wilson (though my wife prefers the Wilson). All three guns function flawlessly, have great triggers, are wonderfully accurate (though I'm still testing the DWX Compact), and conceal well. The Wilson is tops in fit and finish, with the DWX right behind. The Kimber is a little lacking in that category, but not by much. So, in the things that are important to me, it looks like the new DWX Compact will top my list (once I get the self-adjusting front sight issue fixed), with the Kimber right behind, while my beautiful EDC X9 will sit in the safe. "Your mileage may vary".
Old model, Gen 5 much better
I have searched and can't find a Gen 5 Glock 25. If you have a source for the G25 gen 5, please send a link.
Nice looking pistol
I agree. Thanks for watching.
Well explained Rider. Great video
Thanks once again for watching.
Apart from the Trigger, everything else is fine
I bought my prodogy in march 2024 I had no issues with it. I chose to do upgrades anyway. Lots of atlas parts. Im into it for 2,100.00 dollars. Its a great gun with no issues way cheaper than staccato. Im sure staccato is great but my prodogy is also for way cheaper.
It's always enjoyable to customize a gun, but $2,100 is knocking on the door of the Staccato P. Thanks for watching.
I Just Received a Ritchie TAC Shoulder Rig for a Custom 1911... Something about that "Italian Leather" that just looks like vinyl or faux leather!
Picked up a DWX compact a year ago and it makes me look like a sharp shooter. An absolute tack driver.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I bought one of the first ones with a serial number in the 1200's and had it milled for an RMR. 3 years ago, I wanted the DWX and the DWXc so bad that I couldn't stand it. And like you I bought other 4" pistols in the meantime, WC EDCX9, DW ECP and TCP and when the DWXc finally became available, I hesitated for a second, as I did not need any more 4" long barrel pistols. After that second was over, I ordered the DWXc and it is my favorite by far. I have never had any sort of malfunction and it's a tack driver. Now I want the DWX, but I don't want a rail on it, so unless they come out with a version without a rail, that one is on hold. Great review of the DWX Compact.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I just did a search for a full size DWX without a rail and couldn't find one.
Very good video. It's best to get the base plates from Henning Group and then you have OEM parts for a $2000 pistol so it doesn't look like a hack job. I just bought 20 round mags from Hennings where they use a 17 round CZ75 magazine and magazine extension. They work flawlessly and are perfect for my xl hands.
The base plates from the CZ 14-round mags on the MecGar 15-round mags look just fine in the DWX. I'm not excited about spending almost $80 for the 20-round mags from Henning. But thanks for the info and thanks for watching.
Yea it would add up the buy bass pads for dwx compact…but it looks lot nicer and they have red option on Henning website…other models of similarly priced pistols have magazine that cost 80+…spending 30$ for mec gar n 20$ for bass pad not super crazy price…but it should be sold on cz or Dw website…pretty dumb it isn’t
Thank you for watching and commenting. The only red baseplates for the Compact that I see on the Henning website are the +3 at $39.95 each. (Or go with the 20-round mags on the Henning site for $78.30 each, plus shipping.) For a carry gun - isn't that what the DWX Compact is intended for? - the base pads off my original 14-round CZ P01 mags look good on the DWX Compact mags and actually work better than the original Henning bases.
Excellent video. Most informative. Thank you.
Thank you for watching.
Great review as usual. Best gun reviews / comparisons
Thanks for watching and for the kind comment.
Slow down! When you give us a peek of another gun as an example, please let us have a few seconds to drool. Where did you get that brown grip for the KDS9C?
I agree that I need to slow down some and I recognize that when I am editing that video. It's a bad habit I haven't worked hard enough to break. Thanks for pointing that out. As to the KDS9c grip, I ordered those off the Kimber website.
@@RidersRange 🙂 Maybe get a comparison of shooting and accuracy between KDS9C and the others?
Hmmm.....something to think about. Thanks.
I would like to see a comparison with the kimber kds9c as well,
I wonder how this compares to the Staccato C. I've been saving my pennies for the Staccato but I might divert towards this if it feels and shoots better for me. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I like Staccato 2011 pistols and my daily carry gun is a Staccato C DUO (the single-stack model, not the newest C double-stack). However, the blocky grip on Staccato double-stack pistols, including the newest edition of the "C", isn't as ergonomic or as concealable as the CZ-style grip on the DWX, or even the Kimber KDS9c. I have a Staccato C2 and I've shot the CS, but neither feels as good in my hand or conceals as well as the DWX.
@@RidersRange Thanks I really your input.
Great review. Thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching and commenting.
Agree, no rail for me on a carry
I'm with you, though I'm guessing you and I are in the minority. Thanks for watching.
@@RidersRange yup we probably are in the minority. More angular and more bulk. Not what I want for a draw from the holster. My bedside gun has a light and a proper holster though. Thank you
Pink trigger? That is a bit off the rail.
It's actually red, though I didn't color-correct the video, so it looks pink. Thanks for watching.
The gun community is funny. All the other RUclipsrs bitched and moaned and whined that the DWX Compact didn't have a rail. 🤣
The gun community is like most others - driven by trends and fads. Right now the trend is for weapon-mounted lights. That's great for law enforcement and military, and for some, it's tacti-cool. But in my not-always-so-humble opinion, there is no reason to hang a light - or anything else - on a carry gun for private citizens, so a rail is just added weight and drag. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@RidersRange Completely agree with your comment!
This is absolutely wrong,
My biggest criticism of DA/SA is that many (like the px4) don't have thumb safeties. This makes cond.1 carry unsafe unless it has a safety (like the HK 23.) You can use DA/SA guns w/ safeties just like you can use SAO guns if you choose. Plus you will have with the added option of cond 2 firing minus thumb cocking.
The whole idea of DA/SA is so one can carry the gun in the equivalent of "Condition Two", but absent the safety. Those who want to carry in "Condition One" generally opt for a single-action only pistol. Thanks for watching.
@@RidersRange You're absolutely right. I don't really see the need for thumb safety in double action like the PX4F has. I had a px4 myself and liked it, but I never used DA. . I do remember wishing it had a SA safety option though.
Great info, thanks
Thanks for watching.
Factory 5 rounds
Mine are original and each holds 6 rounds.
Bought them for 2 of my grandsons. A top quality, highly accurate rifle. Put an old 4X scope on one of them and we were hitting 1 inch spinner plates at 100 yds 7 out 0f 10 rounds. I wish that magazines were easier to find...
Thanks for watching and adding your thoughts on the accurate little gun. As to mags, my friend @craigromack6156 just brought me a couple 10-round mags and a 25-round. I'll have to ask him where he got them.
Full recovery from shoulder surgery takes longer than most people would anticipate. It is a complex and relatively less stable joint.
Thanks for watching and commenting. It's been five months since surgery and I am about 90% plus. That final 10% is the hardest. My doctor and physical therapist both say it'll take about a year to get as good as it will ever get.
